how do you translate I ask
cum traduc întreb pe filozof
cuvîntul consciousness
cunoaştere naştere truc
atenţie la înger insomnie de cuc?

in english you can verb a noun
but better you affix a prefix
so as to dress it in a frown
contra naturam but easy to remove

în limba română faci din subiect verb-izvor
plutind din sunet în sunet ca o corabie
furată de poeţi şi navigată de sentimente
în fiecare propoziţie se zbate o vrabie
cunoaştere dă naştere imprevizibil

consciousness has an inner border
it details knowing and keeps what it knows
until the knowing grows into a store
ah but romanian delights in flexible disorder
the noun flees easily its conceptual frame
romanian carelessly gifts and tells
the awareness that english weighs and sells
and which romanian knows but cannot name

e mai bine să fii prăvălie sau jucărie?
some say that to own a store is to know things
e mai bine să-ti faci din ce cunoşti călătorie?
furnica trudeşte with patience greierul sings
if you can play with knowing do you know more?

so my split mind waxes on its four wings

cu cît mai mult afli
cu cît mai puţin ştii
şi morţii mult aflară
între înăuntru şi afară
poet-scafandru
fă-ţi cuibu negru tandru
între a cunoaşte şi a fi
lamă între morţi si vii

the more you learn
the less you know
a dark mouth opens
where you once stood
light now pure infection
shedding thumb and toe
everything you say`s
misunderstood oh poet
you achieved perfection
